District Schools Open as Soon As Possible after Ratification of Tentative Agreement

Many parents and community members will have heard reports in the media that a tentative agreement to end the labour dispute has been reached between the BC Teachers’ Federation and the government. We are all greatly relieved to hear this news and know that students and parents are anxious to begin their school year as soon as possible.

There are a few steps remaining before schools open. Nevertheless, do rest assured that we are all committed to doing all that we can to ensure students and teachers are back in the classroom very soon:

  1. Teachers across the province will need to ratify the agreement, and there are plans for the teacher’s association to do so later this week.
  2. Boards of Education across BC will meet to ratify the agreement. Our SD #10 Board of Education has called a Special Regular Meeting for Thursday, September 18th for this purpose.
  3. Each district, in consultation with Ministry of Education requirements to be announced shortly to districts, will decide when school will begin. SD 10 is committed to re-opening our schools as soon as possible.
  4. As soon as a district decision has been made on school re-opening, this information posted on our district website.
