As Spring Break Ends, an Update for Parents and Students – March 27, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

I know it’s been a stressful and challenging time for our students and parents while schools have been on spring break with uncertainty about what happens next. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We care about all our learners and our families and have been working hard to put plans into place to support all students in accordance with the 4 key principles that the Ministry of Education has set:

1. Maintaining a healthy and safe environment for students, families and staff is paramount.
2. Providing services to support children of essential workers is our top priority.
3. Supporting vulnerable students who may need special assistance.
4. Providing continuity of educational opportunities for all students.

Here is what you can expect:

  • Our teachers and support staff will return to work next week and plan for the continuity of learning in the coming weeks
  • You will be contacted directly by your child’s teacher or another school employee next week (March 30-April 3)
  • You will be asked to respond to some survey questions that will help us plan for use of technology, food programs, support for vulnerable learners and child care for essential service workers
  • By the week of April 13-17 you and your children will have engaged in some learning activities and communication with the teacher
  • Some teachers will be using Fresh Grade, Google Classroom, Google Hangouts, Moodle courses or other means to reach out to families and students using digital technologies
  • Some teachers will be using printed materials and books to support the learning of their students

Attached is a letter from Minister of Education, Rob Fleming identifying resources for families and students and clarifying student assessment, graduation, and other questions that parents and students have.

Letter to Parents and Guardians from Rob Fleming, Minister of Education

Take care everyone, and please don’t hesitate to phone or email your local school principal or vice principal should you have any questions.

Kindest wishes,
Terry
