Outdoor Learning Thriving in SD10

Outdoor learning and environmental/place conscious education have been foundational pieces in SD10 for many years.  Our commitment to being and learning outside extends to each of our schools and we continue to focus on weaving in Indigenous Education into our outdoor learning opportunities.  Each school is also putting emphasis on building curricular competencies into outdoor education so that students are developing their academic proficiencies along with their experiences outdoors.

Each year the Kootenay-Boundary Environmental Education Initiative (KBEE) sponsor the “Take Me Outside 4 Learning School Year Challenge”, where teachers are asked to commit to taking their students outside for learning at least one day a week.  Again, this year, SD10 had the highest percentage of students registered for the challenge out of the seven participating districts.  SD10 proudly displays our newest trophy at the district office and will use the $500 first place award to enhance each school’s outdoor learning resources.  Thank you to our teachers and students for making outdoor education such a priority.
